Pulpit Rock Conservation Area in Bedford. Really an amazing area - would not have thought to go here if it weren't for AMC's Southern NH Trail Guide. The glacial potholes (pulpit rock forms the top of the main pothole) are numerous and their size rival's the Basin in Franconia Notch, except, there isn't as much water running through them here. The potholes follow along the edge of the stream - there are at least a half dozen (maybe more) distinct potholes. Neat old pictures at the kiosk near the pulpit of carriages visiting from the city.
Really nice trail running when not poking around the pulpit rock, potholes, HUGE sawmill site and Indian Rock. I followed the white blazes past Indian Rock going south. Past that rock the trail is pretty light and looked very new. I believe the trail connects to the trail system at Joppa Hill Farm, but, I turned around at what looked like a capped landfill.
Below is the trail map by the Bedford Conservation Commission. |
