Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: parked at the start of forest road 446 on stinson lake road. a bit tough to find a place out of the mud to park without partially blocking the gate, but probably not an issue. road is part of snowmobile corridor in winter.

Comments
Comments: based on the usgs i though the road might be useful to gain some elevation on downing, but it quickly became clear the road was not quite where shown on the map so i turned off and headed for the southeast end of the peak. the woods became pretty steep with some scrambling around large rocks and ledges. nice walking along the narrow summit ridge towards the highpoint with one last short climb to the top. there was evidence of old cutting and i followed a not too heavily used herd path west dropping a bit to a fantastic viewpoint over stinson lake. from this point there was a pretty well used herd path coming up from the west from points unknown. i climbed back over the summit dropped a bit down the ridge then took a direct line back to the car. woods were much more moderate with better footing up high. i continued down with goods woods eventually hitting the remnants of an old skidder road that led to the forest road just before the gate.

after a wet earlier bushwhack i almost scrapped this one, but scouted it out and with the promise of some clearing started up. lots of good, but rocky woods. the viewpoint near the summit was a real treat. great looks to black hill, carr, stinson and stinson lake up close and a good long distance view to cardigan beyond tenney wind. very nice.
