Comments
Comments: given the morning rain everything was quite wet. heavy leaf cover on trails. i hiked for a bit on kineo trail then hit the woods up black hill. woods were open and grades moderate to start. the final climb to the summit became significantly more steep with some small cliffs/ledges to weave around. around a couple false bumps south of the summit the woods turned to spruce/fir before more open hardwood around the highpoint which seems to be right about at the spot elevation on the usgs. descendig i went more direct down from the summit in good hardwoods. a few steeper spots and lots of slippery leaves and rocky footing. i had wondered if it might be possible to walk right over the leaf filled footbed on kineo trail coming down and decided to prove that it was....i soon hit an old logging road which brought me back out to stinson mountain road a bit east of the trailhead.

given that there are a few black hills in nh i will note that this report is for the 2,135 black hill in ellsworth near kineo and carr. i had hoped for a rain free morning, but instead got a couple hours of rain and ended up quite wet despite the open woods. a lot of neat drainages and rock outcrops on the side of black hill with very nice open woods. would make for some great snowshoeing. some limited seasonal views to the kineo ridge and to stinson mountain.
