We made this an early one, thinking we'd do another short hike in the area. But we spent a lot of time on this one. It is as beautiful as other reports say, and thanks for the parking and access! It was cloudy when we got there. The trail on the north side is very eroded, but not difficult. The expected afternoon showers were arriving ahead of time. Did not get rained on yet, but atmospheric conditions gave us our VERY FIRST UNDERCAST! Exciting! Went on to the south cliffs. Fantastic views, even with the rain coming in. The trail is actually much nicer between the fire tower and the cliffs. We sat and speculated where one would come up from this side (came home and read about a possible trail from the 1800's from Jericho road). We did not find the mines. By this time the skies opened up and I did not want to explore something like that under slippery conditions. Maybe we'll be back someday. |
