No water above the third crossing, making the aggressive part of the ascent tough on canines on an unseasonably warm day like today. |

New hatching of mosquitoes and black flies, though not overly vexing. I suspect they'll be shedding their mortal coils pretty soon. |

Trails were mostly dry. Warm temperatures were dragging down hikers and dogs alike.
Nice golden birch foliage along the steeps. Valley is nearing peak foliage, and the drive up Route 49 is spectacular. |
