| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Best bet for parking was by snowmobile D gate 1.2 miles in on podunk road past campground road. I was a bit surprised they had the toll booth open at 7:20 am to collect the $4. |

A nice 3-ish mile loop to do this firetower peak. Bear Hill Trail starts on podunk road a few hundred yards south of the gate for snowmobile trail.
The firetower footing remain amid the ant hills on the summit of bear hill, plus some other fire tower footing. Descended towards Ferret Trail. Bear Pond was nicer than expected with many granite boulders/ledge in and around it-- kind of reminiscent of inlets of coastal maine... kind of.
Some neat boulder fields on Hedgehog ledge trail. Back end of that trail nearer end of loop was a bit confusing. At first I went past the unblazed trail in the woods on the right by the sign and onto the snowmobile trail, but decided to take the trail reading the AMC southern NH description. I suspect both would get you back to the parking. But the hedgehog ledge trail seems to go in 3 directions at that point?
Yay for the firetowers list, it looks like all the rage! |
