Parking/Access Road Notes: Lincoln Woods lot about half full on arrival at 12:30 pm; about the same on return at 8:00 pm.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Three on Lincoln Brook Trail trivial; bushwhack avoided other two, but those also probably easy at the moment, as USGS East Branch hydrograph in Lincoln reading under 100 CFS.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All in good shape, including Black Pond Bushwhack, which has an easy to follow tread most of the way. Return from north especially easy to follow; can leave compass in the pack. This bushwhack saves me about 30 minutes each way, and much more in the winter.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Two really menacing nasty dogs camped with their human at the beginning of Black Pond bushwhack at Lincoln Brook crossing on my way out. The pit bull really wanted to tear me apart, I think, and I was worried that the human would not be able to hold onto both of his unleashed dogs in his illegal camp less than 50 ft from Lincoln Brook. People like this give good dog owners a bad name. Second bad dog encounter for me this summer; gotta laugh at the mountain lion and black bear scare threads on VftT; vicious dogs and their irresponsible owners are a larger threat in the backcountry. Fortunately, 98% of the dogs and their owners that I meet on the trails are great.
Bugs
Bugs: Trivial
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Dog encounter led to me leaving cached water bottle behind a tree at the beginning of bushwhack from north at the Lincoln Brook crossing. Assuming that the illegal camper with vicious dogs did not remove, please pick up and discard for me, as I may not get back out there until late September; thank!

Comments
Comments: Overall, nice weather for one of my favorite hikes; excellent trail conditions, few bugs, and fewer people, given it was a Friday. Satisfied four grids in one shot, second round, solo round, pm round, and >60 round for August, with a PR time, to boot. Setting a lot if PRs late in my career, no doubt a byproduct of solo hiking.
