Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Small crossings on Madison Gulf Trail were easy. The crossing of the West Branch of the Peabody River on the Six Husband Trail required some care but only superficially wetted the boots as there were many rocks. At higher water levels this crossing would be tricky.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. There were some downed trees on both the Madison Gulf Trail and the Great Gulf Trail but were easily stepped over or ducked under. Blazes are scarce in the Great Gulf wilderness area.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The Six Husbands Trail would be difficult for most dogs. All other trails fine for dogs but water may be lacking at higher elevations.
Bugs
Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: Only met two other hikers on the ascent route up Mt Jefferson including nobody on the Six Husbands Trail. Met no other hikers on the Davis Path or Boott Spur Trail. Lots of people at each summit.
One should be prepared for the hike up Six Husbands Trail as it involves boulder caves, ladders, and steep ledges and may require a difficult river crossing when water levels are high. These challenges also may it an exhilarating hike. The Six Husbands Trail would be difficult to dangerous if surfaces were wet or icy.
A man was playing bagpipes at an auto road parking area below the summit. Felt like I was in the Highlands.
