Peaks None, NH
Trails
Trails: Sawyer Pond Trail, Hancock Notch Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, July 26, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No problem at Sawyer Pond. The Hancock Trailhead was busy though parking, perhaps with some ingenuity, was available.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The initial crossing over the Swift River requires fording. Some rocks are present but some looking up and downstream didn't yield any dry feet alternatives. Only a positive note the water was warm.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The Sawyer Pond Trail is in good shape from top to bottom. Aside from the first mile or so on each end the Hancock Notch Trail is pretty much continuous washouts\water erosion, streams masquerading as trails, brush in need of some serious lopper action and some blowdowns to keep things interesting.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw Damselfly's dog 'Trooper' having a great time. http://trailsnh.com/URL/59876
Bugs
Bugs: Not too bad. I was wearing DEET but didn't have to add a bug net. There were some bugs on the Sawyer Pond Trail that took great delight in dive bombing the top of my head. A hat fixed that little problem.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: N/A

Comments
Comments: This report by TJsName: http://trailsnh.com/URL/59292 does a good job describing the trail. I'll add that in the areas where you're looking around for the where the trail went there will be pink surveyors tape showing the way. It may require some scrutiny to find it but it's there.

Everything aside the middle portions isn't terrible but you will get wet feet. I wouldn't recommend traversing the middle part after a good rain.
