no crossings, tho, I turned back to my start point too early and ended up in the swamp not far from the parking lot |

terrible - horseflies were awful, but, they were scared away by the swarm of some kind of flies on the summit - I didn't stay long. Then, in the swamp I don't know what the heck was in there, but, I got bit. |

Glad to get this firetower site hike out of the way....
I walked up the road (logging road to the Diamond Peaks) about a half mile to right before the big logging bridge and struck up for the ridgeline. Lots of rock outcroppings as I was gaining the ridge. Then, the ridge was pretty open - nice mostly hardwood glade with occasional large stands of hobblebush. Easy enough to avoid that. Also some large fern areas. In general, pretty easy to make my way up to the summit and tag the giant spraypainted "X" on the summit tree.
For the descent, I found a few old skidder roads to follow but then dropped too fast into the swamp area - waded up to my thighs amidst a deep muck that allowed me to finally answer that question that has been bothering me forever, "What is in swamps and how deep is it?" I cannot tell you - but it is pretty special tho :)
Excellent happiness when I got to my car and changed out of wet clothes and shoes :)
