Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Deer flies were an unexpected annoyance today (during the Piper Mountain hike section). I started killing them off as they landed on my arms to bite and lost count of how many I wiped out after about 20. But I think I may have suffered a similar number of successful attacks. I was wearing DEET, but they obviously laughed at that. Fortunately (as far as I know) they do not transmit any nasty diseases, such as ticks and mosquitoes may. Too bad they attack hikers, because otherwise they are good-looking critters and I'd be glad to share the woods with them.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A pair of sunglasses was left on Piper Mountain Road. I placed them (hopefully clearly visible) on a trailside boulder.

Comments
Comments: There is an interesting set of hiking options here, useful if you are in the region and looking for something different. The bushwhack (difficult) to Moose Mountain is optional, of course; the other trails are easy.
