Couldn't resist the forecast. Needed Jefferson so even though it didn't count for my winter 48 I figured I'd check off the box for any season. Jewell trail was its usual PITA condition, the rock garden above tree line is just a treat...with snow hiding those ankle/leg breakers. I took a lot of time descending. There is monorail in places that is quite narrow, but no major drop off. Light traction worked, but spikes were balling up. Ended up bare booting some of it. I used snowshoes coming down for a pretty good stretch once I got beyond the extremely narrow monorail. It eventually turns bony again so switched to the microspikes to finish it out. Gulfside was no problem, bare in some places, with a few drifts here and there along with easily avoidable ice. Probably last post for this year. Lord willing I'll be back at it next winter. Hope you all have a wonderful Spring-Summer-Fall! |
