Date of Hike: Monday, April 14, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The parking lot at the south end was full before 9 am but enough room available at north end.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Skis
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The snow is crying and the rivers and streams are rising. The ice bridge that crosses the New River close to the beginning of the trail is disappearing fast. Someone carried out a large plank and laid it across near the remaining narrow ice bridge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trial is wonderful condition but there are a few rocks to be avoided while skiing. Most everyone was on using skins on skis or split boards with one snowshoer carrying a snowboard, happy to report no post-holes.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One happy pup made the trip!

Comments
Comments: Thankfully Gulf of Slides is less well known than its neighbor ravine on the north side of Boot Spur, we nearly had the place to ourselves. We didn't start until just after 9 am and we were the first up and the first down. Only saw perhaps eight others all day. Bright sun, tropical winds and temperatures that soared into the 70's made it a super duper day. We easily kicked steps up to top carrying skis on pack and poles in hand. Great skiing all the way to the parking lot. Plenty of snow in the Gulf that will last but other than the New River crossing the trail is well covered with consolidated snow.
