Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: the normal parking lot off Bickford/ Wood Road is not plowed. I parked on wood road near the turn careful to stay close to the snowbank to allow the homeowner at the end of the road to get in and out. Road is dirt and melting a bit, but 2wd should make it, my 4x4 was fine

Comments
Comments: Nice late afternoon hike, although it was not spring in any way. Once at higher elevation, I actually had to hike with fleece, shell, and balaclava, even uphill! I don't normally to that winter hiking the 4ks! Still 1-3+ feet of snow, depending on elevation and sun exposure. The Belknaps won't melt out as soon as normal, be aware.

Trail up to Round Pond was "broken" by a postholer in sneakers and his dog and one snowhoer, both making separate tracks, fairly annoying since it had frozen firm. No one had headed on the BRT, and one snowshoe track on Klem loop that must have come from the boy scout camp. The underlying crust off trail was very firm, you would only sink 4-6 inches, as I found when I created the bushwhack to the Klem peak.

This 6 mile loop has many nice viewpoints along the way, including one before the Klem summit of the lake with panorama of the whites from Moosilauke to Presi's and Ossipee. Had solitude and a beautiful owl calling at the end of the hike. Shh, don't tell anyone about this area. Stay in the 4k's, nothing to see here. A few shots linked in gallery below if you refuse to head that warning.
