Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The Quarry Trail has many blowdowns and especially on East Quarry which gives the impression of almost being a bushwhack with a somewhat clear herd path. There was a fair sized muddy section in the col south of the Straightback summit and a large muddy section going up East Quarry.

Comments
Comments: This was my first hike on this range, but not my last. The views from Mt. Major were stunning. Once north of Major we had the trails to ourselves. This was one of the most enjoyable hikes I've had in a long time. The upper ledges on the Mt. Major trail would be difficult if wet, but today they presented no difficulty at all. The Quarry trail, to some extent on North Straightback and especially on East Quarry is somewhat difficult to follow. On East Quarry I had the feeling I was doing a bushwhack and when I found the summit sign I had the same feeling I get when I find a canister on a bushwhack. The fact that the mountain has been fairly recently logged makes following the trail all the more difficult. The Quarry By-Pass has been recently blazed and is easy to follow but it also has numerous blowdowns. All in all this was a fantastic hike. I was on a hikers 'high' most of the day. Out there on that range today all one could say is life is good.
