Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All were rock hops today but the ones on the western end of Nancy Pond Tr could be challanging in high water.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails in generally good shape. Reroutes on Signal Ridge Tr were muddy and greasy. The junction of Signal Ridge and Carrigain Notch Tr is now about 1/4 further up and after the crossing of Carrigain Brook. Desolation Tr was very brushy near Carrigain's summit but opened up the lower we went. One waist high blowdown on Carrigain Notch Tr near Stillwater Jctn and some stepovers on the western end of Nancy Pond Tr. Care needed near Norcross Pond as numerous herd paths and illeagle campsites were a bit confusing and we almost started up the Mt Nancy spur. Trail crews are working on a reroute of Nancy Pond Tr below the falls.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Plenty of water and mud around. Desolation Tr had some steep rocky sections buy nothing that Marlie hasn't encountered before. Be sure to bring a leash for the road walk.
Bugs
Bugs: Some mosquitoes near the parking lot and a swarm of gnats chased me up Sawyer River Rd at the end of the day.

Comments
Comments: This was a pretty long trip just to bag Carrigain. I figured it was a nice day so I might as well finish up redlining the western sections of Carrigain Notch and Nancy Pond Tr. Beautiful area seldom seen. Great footing and easy grades on these sections. We made it from Stillwater Jctn to Norcross Pond in 1 hr 25 min! The original plan was to whack over Mt Anderson and down to Carrigain Notch for our exit but a later than desired start and above average pace made me decide to stick to the trails. Thanks Marlie for following me no matter what crazy ideas I come up with.
