Another really fantastic day for hiking in western Maine. Trail has been cleared, and was basically dry. There were a few patches of snow on the descent into the col, and on the ascent of West, but were either avoidable, small, or frozen enough to walk on(and none were deep enough to make postholing more than a nuisance). Views were fantastic, didn't see anyone. The house-sized boulders near the junction of the AT and Safford Brook are amazing, and standing atop Old Man's Head is satisfying. One of my favorite hikes. |
