The Rapid Stream Rd was plowed for a bit but the last few to the bridge were unplowed. Someone had driven in before us so we followed and parked about 300 yards before the bridge. Another SUV came in behind us and parked before the bridge. They had first tracks and that turned out to be good for us. Thanks again guys! It was slow going with the snowshoes even with two people in front of us. 4.5 hours to the summit and 3 hours on the return. There were a few blow downs but overall the trail was clear. Tough to follow the cairns once above the tree line but we followed the tracks in front of us to the summit.
4 degrees at the bottom and guessing -20 at the summit with the windchill. Good moisture management was the key to staying comfortable...TNF base layer, LL Bean vest and TNF Thermoball jacket on top and Smartwool base layer, light fleece midlayer and some REI DWR hiking pants on the bottom. Timberland insulated hiking boots keep my feet dry and warm. |
