Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Obviously Rt 113 is open, and the parking area is fine. We were the only car in on arrival; leaving there were three others.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most crossings nothing but dry rock steps. The two lowest on Mission Brook were fine for me, although I did go downstream from the missing bridge to find a rocks for dry jumps. Pepper waded at the Falls and the missing bridge.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several multi-stem blocking blowdowns have been cleaned up. There is a major multi-stem 15-20 minutes up Caribou from the parking area which I didn't delimb, because the stem was roughly thigh/waist high and would have forced people to crawl, so they would have gone around it anyway. It needs a bigger saw or axe. There is another softwood on Mudbrook in the lower ledges ascent that is just barely in the trail, so after failing to move it I left it, since it is avoidable without getting out of the trail bed. There are some other duckunders or stepovers that appear to have been on these trails for some time. The yellow painted arrows on the ledges/summit are quite faint and they would be hidden by any snow, but with some missteps we followed the route.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pepper had fun. He likes the views. The ledges might be tricky for some dogs coming up via Mud Brook from the south. All signs were in place.

Comments
Comments: This was a mixed storm recon and a favorite low but open mountain hike on a pleasant day. We had a leisurely snack on the summit with great views in all directions - the Presi peaks were awesome in their white coatings in direct sun with dark clouds over the Mahoosucs. There were no sounds at all today. There was no snow at the trailhead, sugar snow for much of Mud Brook to the ledges, perhaps 1-2" of snow on the peak and down to Caribou and below that a ways. The snow coating on Caribou in its upper half above the falls made for some slippery conditions. I could have gone faster in my rock spikes on the descent in that area, but we weren't in a hurry.
