Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The CVR was passable, maybe 6 inches of snow on it and it had already been driven on but we took the side of caution and parked and the mile mark and hiked in from there. We figured better to hoof it out then try and get someone to come tow us out at the gate!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The south branch of the Carrabassett was running good but passable. Some rock hopping and the 2 x 12 that was laid out work. Did slip on one rock and got some water over the boot top but a quick change of a sock was fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail from the CVR to the junction with the Sugarloaf Trail is poorly marked and so if you are new to the trail be aware.

Comments
Comments: The CVR had 6 inches of snow and so you really didn't need snowshoes or microspikes. It was a pain walking in the narrow tire tracks but easier then on h unpacked snow. The snow got deeper as you went higher up the mountain working for the 6 or so on the bottom to 2 feet at the top. We should have brought the snowshoes as the last mile was tough especially the last 700 in elevation gain on the Sugarloaf trail. No real ice except for a little at fatman rock other than that it was good. Snowy and very cold at the top. Could barely see the top of the towers. Maybe zero F with the windchill but nicer in the trees.
