Comments
Comments: My nephew Orion and I spent 3 days in Baxter State Park and did two fairly big hikes. This was the first one. It was overcast and threatening rain all day, and fortunately it held off until fairly late in the hike and then was fairly light. Because of the weather we saw no one else the whole day. The hike up the Coe slide was rather intimidating to me, but we did it. My nephew is a much stronger hiker than me, and he was able to lead the way up the slide and give me a hand when needed. Also the side trail to the summit of South Brother was rather steep at the end. We were rewarded for our efforts with a view of - nothing. There was pea soup fog on the summit of South Brother and we could only see a few feet ahead. We then finished the loop back to the Marston Trail and took it back to my car. I had hoped to maybe go up North Brother and on to Fort, with with no visibility to locate the way to Fort (which has no trail), that plan was scrapped. The second hike- up Katahdin the next day- I only did part of, so I am not going to write it up.
