Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Zircon, ME
Trails
Trails: Mt. Zircon Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, August 20, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Hardly any. The Trailhead is accurately described in the AMC Guide (10th Ed.), except for the gate not being closed, but it is hard to spot. We missed it and so did the only other hiker we met. Coming from the east, if you get to Zircon Brook you've gone a little too far.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Over 2/3ds of the 2.9 mile distance is a maintained dirt road - the old north end of the zircon Mtn. Road that goes by the one-time Zircon Spring bottling plant. The AMC ME Guide describes it as gated but the gate was open, I assume for the sake of logging operations going on around sections of it (but no activity today). We could have driven it but guessed we shouldn't and there was no parking at the "real" trailhead anyway. At 1.5 mile, opposite an old bottling building, the Spring gushes cold, clear and delicious form a pipe, on the east side of the road a little below road surface level.

Comments
Comments: The old fire tower is now on its side, but the summit ledges offer great views from SW to NE.
