Trail Maintenance Notes: Albany mountain trail is in great shape, other than still being signed as Albany Notch trail. Albany notch trail is abandoned; it was obvious/blazed where we hit it, but soon became obscure.

Comments: We began by walking about 1/2 mi. on the Albany brook trail. We then began to bushwhack towards Farwell. The woods were open the majority of the way. There was some very steep going near the top. We hit the ridge just north of the summit, where we found a fine view. The summit has near 360 views. We recognized a highpoint.

We headed down towards Peter Mountain, hitting the col and turning towards Albany. We soon hit what we found to be the old Albany Notch trail, which initially had blazing and a clear corridor. We chose to follow the old trail towards the notch for a bit, but eventually lost it at a swampy area. We bushwhacked towards the notch, finding some scrappy going. Soon we hit the Albany mountain trail close to the summit spur.

We visited the summit, taking the cairn marked path to some fine views and returning via the north side of the Albany Mountain trail. This was a great hit to two very cool peaks. Ryan and I each agreed that this was one of the best Mid-work day hikes we have taken this summer.
