| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Directions published online are generally good. Take the left turn 0.2 north of Parlin Pond pullout (signed Spencer Road). Go straight where Old Spencer Road forks left. The side road is unmarked, but is not far after mile marker 16.5. Rutted side road (with grass growing in the middle) is 0.4 miles long, and ends at a signed parking area. Roads in good shape, with one bridge around mile 9 having some damage to it. |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Follow the grassy road uphill from the parking area, go through the giant waterbar/roadblock, and shun the turn to the left (there is a piece of flagging straight ahead in the woods here, follow it). Beyond the marked boundary, the trail is blazed in pale blue. A number of stepovers, and general downed sticks. I cleaned up as much as I could. |

| Bugs: |
Not terrible, but not great either. Wind on the summit kept them at bay. |

After checking out the B-52C crash site on my way out of Greenville, and stopping in at Moxie Falls in the Forks, I ended up driving a long way out on logging roads for this gem. No. 5 Mountain Trail climbs at easy grades up to the summit tower (where the cab has no floor or roof), and excellent views even if you don't decide to climb it. I did climb it to just below the cab, and found respite from the bugs and the heat. Fantastic views out to the Boundary Mountains, Attean Pond, No. 5 Bog, and Canada. Haze limited views beyond. A long ways away, but that's exactly why I went. |
