I followed the main trail to a cairn where the trail goes left and a path that looks like a river (!) goes straight. I took the path/river to a junction, where you go straight at a cairn. This led to the pond. There was lots of ice and standing water on the trail near the pond. A very desecrate path, marked by a yellow arrow, leaves on the right. This is marked by ribbons. I lost the path at some cuts/skid road and ended up bushwhacking about a half of a mile until I rejoined it. The woods were not too bad, but wet. The path had lots of blue flow ice. On the way down I was able to keep the path. You cross cuts and a fair around of blowdown.
This was a steal for a calendar winter assent of this peak. If the road is gated, you add 10 mi rt. I had tried it last Feb solo, when the road was gated and it was a 20mi. rt., but had to give up due to snow-depth. Given that disappointment, a break was not a bad thing. |
