Hiking Trail Conditions Report

Peaks Mt. Abraham, ME
Trails
Trails: Mt. Abraham Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, October 31, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I was able to drive right to the trailhead proper, mostly because of the fancy new bridges on Rapid Stream Rd. The last 1/2 mile after that was rough and required care to drive. Use good judgment when driving to this trailhead.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All rock-hopped except the very first one, which I crossed on a log going up and walked right through on the way down.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few big blowdowns down low. Getting around them is not an issue, though. Also, not a trail issue per se, but when I got to the summit, the old fire tower frame was knocked over on the ground on its side.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw none.

Comments
Comments: Couldn't have asked for a better day to hike Mt. Abraham! Crystal clear skies and cold, crisp air made for some killer views! Since there was almost no wind on the top, I didn't need to put on any winter gear either! To top it all off, I didn't see anyone the whole time! One of only a handful of 4K hikes where that's happened. Great 21st birthday hike, and a great day to bag #60 on the New England 67!
