Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: All roads in good to fair condition and all gates open. Spotted car at Great Brook Trail and rode my bicycle about three miles to Enid Melrose Road--stashed my bicycle behind last telephone pole next to the old radiators and I believe this is the place that the guidebook recommends parking your car. The road past this point is drive-able but there really isn't a place to park and it looks like someone wrecked their car on the high center nearer the abandoned house before the logging area. The guidebook is right just use the Evergreen Link if I go ever go back.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The lower half of Cold Brook is a road walk and then through a former logging operation, a few small rock cairns will help you out here. All trails clear!! Total surprise to find the Great Brook Trail clear and well marked, small rock cairns and a few orange ribbons and a clear treadway have given this trail new life. Thank you trail maintainers!

Comments: What a day to be in the mountains! I came down Cold Brook to Evergreen Link once and was happy to return to the upper section of Cold Brook. The view from the open ledges was indeed grand in every direction. Super nice to hang out on top of Speckled (noticed more turbines sticking out on top of Jericho in Berlin, NH). Super clear day. Hike over to Durgin was nice and the trail has been clipped and cleared this summer, very nice. And I was happy to find that Great Brook was great! The top part is steep and it passes by some big ledge outcroppings that I thought was neat. Nice cascades and dark steep earth wall that rises from the brook. Forest Road walk back to car seemed long and I have to laugh why make signs invisible?? Natural wood with the arrows carve in them have turned dark and are almost impossible to see, glad there is some yellow blazing left below. (did we really pay people to remove blazes? we are really crazy with our resources). Did not see another soul all day.
