Trails: Fire Wardens Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, July 8, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: road leading in to parking area is not in great shape, plenty of large and continuous pot-holes. Tackled them with ease in the Subaru Crosstrek
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: two water crossings right out of the parking lot. First one wasn't too bad, but the second water crossing is deep (maybe 2.5') and speedy. I decided to take the wet boots and slosh trough, my hiking partner bare-booted without issue. Plenty of smaller water crossings on the way up, but nothing too significant or tricky.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail was in decent shape. Little overgrown in spots, and some good sized blow downs.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: no dogs, didn't see anyone this day.
Bugs
Bugs: plenty. even at the windy summit, those bastards are relentless. Keep moving to keep them down.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: nothing

Comments
Comments: flat/ easy grades for first couple miles, then the steepness kicks in. Wooded, steep section with thick root bed and wet trail made for slower going. At the intersection with tree-line there's a small sign advising you to keep off vegetation. From here, trail goes steeply up shale for maybe 40 minutes or so. Couple lips that make you think you're at the summit base, I loathe those.

Cool summit, there's a small emergency shelter and a knocked down fire tower frame with an American flag.
