Trails: Evergreen Link, Cold Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, May 17, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The WMG recommends parking in the upper parking lot at the Evergreen Valley Inn & Villas (ask permission). I elected to park off to the side of the entrance to the road that heads up to the trailhead. There was a cable across the road at the entrance and a second one further up.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing of note.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Evergreen Link is in good shape for its entire length. Cold Brook trail is generally good. There are some eroded sections that aren't too bad to walk in or alongside. The fun starts after the upper ledges around 2600'. From this point up until close to the summit are numerous blowdowns. I moved what I could but others will need the gentle attention of a saw. For the most part they are all able to be negotiated without much effort.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There was one at the summit having a pretty good time.
Bugs
Bugs: Ugh. Coming up the trail they weren't bad while moving or when a breeze would come through. They were mostly the eye-bombing type but the biters were well represented.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nada.

Comments
Comments: As you probably figured out, I did an out and back using the Evergreen Link trail and the Cold Brook trail from where it intersects Evergreen Link up to the summit.

Evergreen Link is in great shape along it's entire length. The Cold Brook Trail isn't bad even in the eroded areas. There are a few sections were the leaves are thick that can be kinda slick. The ledge areas were great with views and a breeze! Just above the upper ledges the smooth sailing came to an abrupt end with blowdowns. Not sure what went on but the Speckled/Royce area got hit with something that knocked lots of trees over. Luckily most of them are easily navigated by either ducking under or by taking a slight detour off path. I moved what I could off path but the remainder will need a saw to clear.

The summit had enough of a breeze to make the black flies a non-issue.
