Comments
Comments: Cold blustery day on Old Speck. Snowshoes car to car. First mile to junction with Eyebrow trail had 4-8" powdery snow under breakable crust. Middle section had varying conditions, from hard icy windswept surface to 6" powder. Snow increased as we approached ridge. Final mile had 8-12" sugar snow under breakable crust with deeper drifts here and there. Corridor was easily discernible, just a few blowdowns on the upper half. Evidence of recent clearing of a bunch of blowdowns 1-2 miles up. Just the 2 of us out-n-back today, with the whipping winds, our tracks were starting to fill in on our descent, so not sure what kind of track will be there in the coming days. One other car in lot upon return. Saw 1 set of bare boot prints heading toward the other side of the notch. Fun day out on the trails - climbing the fire tower in these wild winds was a bit of a thrill!
