First time out to Third Hill. I went up Mt. Agamenticus, up and over Second Hill and out to Third Hill. Returned taking a slightly differnt set of trails. Took a total of 14 trails altogether.
The keys to getting to Third Hill from Second Hill are:
1. get to the Notch Trail
2. Take the Wheel Trail east until ends
3. Go left on Great Marsh Trail for about 75 feet and look for signs to Third Hill
4. Take trail, bearing right where sign says "No Marked Trail Beyond This Point". Trail is nicely blazed and goes right to the summit. The trail is called the Ledge Trail, according to a sign just below the summit. Warning: this trail was icy, but it was avoidable).
5. Proceed over the summit and follow blazes. You can either take a right on the Bobcat Trail to connect back to the Ledge Trail or go to the Great Marsh Trail and head right back to the Wheel Trail. I did the latter and did lots of bushwhacking as the Great Marsh Trail was a great marsh.
This was a VERY enjoyable hike with some nice views and wild country. Total hike was about 9 miles. Highly recommended!
