Comments
Comments: A perfect day to hike Cadillac in Acadia with temps in the 20s with little to no wind up top. Snow and ice the whole way. Below eagle crag junction packed powder and frozen granular with some patches of ice. Above eagle crag to treeline snow was mix of packed and unpacked powder which was deep in spots and mixed with patches of ice. Traction helpful in these stretches but one could navigate without. Significant Ice above treeline up to Junction with West Face Trail - Traction a must in this stretch; trail transitioned back to packed powder with a thin crust with drifts - lots of postholing in this area heading up but pretty well flattened out by end of the day given the traffic - a couple of spots snow did hide ankle twisting rocks and crevices. Granular snow up top with a thin crust - would not bear weight but only a couple of inches deep. Crystal clear blue skies meant amazing views all day but without sunglasses glare off snow was almost blinding. Met lots of folks heading up the trail today with others skiing up the auto road.
