Comments: great loop. staying at sugarloaf we had a car there and drove to rapid stream road. first crossing by the blown out bridges was fine..second one a little tricky..i made it dry with a big jump but everyone else waded in knee deep water. pretty nice footbed alone the way here and a very nice privy at some tent sites where the cabin used to be, Foot bed good to the scree field which is a spectacular walk with occasional scrub protection. Very blustery on summit we lingered a bit. chatted with a couple of guys finishing their 115…go curley!!! new section headed over to the at from there..what a fun stretch of trail with long pieces above treeline.very nice footbed in other spots in gorgeous birch glades. AT in good shape and we made good time to spaulding spur and summit. once off peak the stretch over to sugarloaf spur a hikers delight with occasional views and great foot bed..side trail to sugarloaf moderate with some wet rock but easy going. winds had clouds really whipping by on summit her..40 + winds with about the same temp…chilly…and did use some gear today..zig zagged down to avoid wind and steeps using binder, scoot, windrow, cat road..big mountain feel here. made it to the base just as it started to sprinkle. only thing wrong with this hike was the 1:15 hour carspot. thanks cynthia for a great day out and for getting a few more in maine. i finished round 2 67 today on abraham. cool crisp and some damp cold fall weather in the air..great hiking temps!!!
