Took the lesser used approach to Caribou, and it is apparent that it doesn't receive nearly as much traffic. The trail is very nice, and only gets moderately steep near the junction with Mud Brook Trail. Great views from the summit, though a passing shower happened to pass right overhead just after we reached the top. Eventually, the sun came out and we basked on the ledges, looking south through Evans Notch.
Descending, we came upon an odd sight. Two dudes were hauling a two-wheeled cart up the grassy logging road portion (maybe 0.1 from the trailhead), with a large plastic barrel in it, filled with what I thought were wood chips. A sweet smell lingered after we passed them, and upon reaching the trailhead, we saw their vehicle (West Virginia plates) and trailer. On the trailer was a giant plastic lined box full of cookies, of all varieties, with a shovel in it. What on earth are two dudes doing, in the middle of the woods, with barrels full of cookies?!?!
