| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
From top to bottom, this trail is under construction by the Maine Conservation Corps. Work was begun in July and expected to continue through this fall. I spend two days with them. Bog bridges are being constructed on the lower portion and one will be mid-mountain. Trail re-routing has happened on the upper portion of the mountain. Stumps and rocks are still being removed. Throughout the trail extensive corridor work and brushing has been done. You can still hike the trail, people do, just be careful. |

| Comments: |
Previously, the trail was a straight line to the top, characterized by some as very "steep". While reroutes are controversial, it was decided based on a safety and erosion perspective. Little traffic has made the rocks very slippery from extensive moss. The trail is on Plum Creek property and they have agreed to set aside this corridor.
The work is being funded by the State of Maine and Plum Creek. |
