Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: parked at Baldface Circle Trail lot for the trails west of Cold River - couldn't cross at dam due to high water (and bridge was not in yet - it is now) and then moved car to Leach Link Trailhead - room for only a couple cars there tho there were no other cars there. From there I did an out-and-back to Deer Hill Road. NOTE: Forest Road 9 (Deer Hill Road) is not open yet east of the gate, so, you cannot park at the east end of Deer Hills Tr.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: no issues other than the dam across the Cold River (bridge was put up for the season during my hike) - rock-hoppable for other crossings
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: here and there blowdowns - none really huge. Conant Path (no open to public) is not marked at the junction of Deer Hills Connector so I took it not knowing it is not open to the public.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: lots of water - would be fine for dogs
Bugs
Bugs: None until the afternoon sun came out then the black flies swarmed on Little Deer Hill - was horrible until it got cloudy again and the breeze picked up - how the bugs make me miss winter even more!!!! Bring bug stuff if you go!!!!

Comments
Comments: Nice day to hike these trails - here and there accidentally took logging roads as I was looking at my map. Re-read my guide and realized I missed the little cave near Little Deer Hill so I went back and did yet another loop of the top of Little Deer Hill - apparently some small animal lived in that little cave all winter - LOTS of tiny excrement everywhere in there!!!!

Fine views later - WOW the views of the Baldfaces were awesome!!! The Deer Hill Spring was pretty cool to see - sand bubbling up - tasted EXCELLENT!!!!!

Doesn't look like a big hike but total distance was just under 12 miles.
