Second weekend up in Acadia and worth it! Nice sunny skies and warm temps, another nice walk with great views. Jordon Pond Carriage Road was solid though definitely spring snow - sank an inch or so. Deer Brook Trail still has deep snow - spring snow meant places where you sank above knees in places - snowshoes might have been useful for about .5 miles but would have been riding the rest of the hike. Up above treeline on Penobscot mtn trail was largely bare rock with running water and some mud - a few patches of snow - where you will sink. Below treeline spring snow and patches of ice - a couple of steep sections where traction is useful to handle the ice. Asticou and Jordan trail was spring snow or soft ice - a few spot where you might posthole. Given weather I would expect that snow will soon be gone on most trails. |
