Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Large lot off Rte 26 cleared but icy. Lot is often shared with those using snowmobile trails but only 2 cars in lot today when I arrived; fee tube is open so I think technically there is a fee.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only significant crossing on AT still has solid snow bridge, smaller crossing on Table Rock trail snow bridge is deteriorating
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Table Rock trail - one 10 inch duckunder and 12 inch stepover about 100 yards apart, a small couple inch duckunder/crawl under inconveniently located on the steep icy pitch right below table rock
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Easy for the canines except for the last steep pitch up to summit where some might need some help. Met a couple with a friendly lab today.

Comments
Comments: A quick out and back. Given forecast was hoping for some nice views; had sunny skies on the drive up but once in Grafton Notch the clouds took over. Had light snow both up and back with some strong wind gusts up top. AT was a mix of packed snow and ice; soft down low but got harder heading up, hillsounds worked well for me but at least one person did it in boots. Table Rock - same mix of packed powder and some ice until the last steep pitch. This steep pitch was pretty solid ice - would definitely recommend traction getting up, hillsounds offered more than adequate traction in the softer ice today but might need something more aggressive in colder conditions; most avoided the rungs up top and cut through the woods since the rock was solid ice leaving the rungs mostly covered. No views as everything was in the clouds but still worth the hike; saw only one other pair of folks on trail today.
