Hike 2/3:
Continuing my exploration of the Monoosnocs, I did a loop up and over South Monoosnoc (1159'). The trail starts along private property then crosses a pretty ugly power line cut. It ducks into the woods after crossing the cut, then gradually climbs to the site of an old quarry. A few relics remain. After that the climb gets a little more moderate, but nothing crazy, approaching some small cliffs and then traversing over them.
On the yellow-blazed unnamed trail is a memorial to a benefactor of the trail. Shortly beyond, the trail passes to the east of the actual wooded summit. No side trail this time, and I didn't bother with the bushwhack. Descending from the summit area there is a nice cleared outlook with benches, providing a vista over to Pine Hill and Wachusett Mountain.
From the outlook I continued on the unnamed trail until it reconnected with the MT, then retraced my steps back to the car. |
